Vermont Renters Rebate 2022 – Vermont is making significant changes to its Renters Rebate Program. These changes will go into effect for the 2021 tax year and the income tax filing season of 2022. The first is a new Landlord Certification form. This will replace the Landlord Certificate form that was previously required to claim the Rebate. Each rental property must complete the Landlord Certificate, which can be filed through myVTax.
VERAP rent payments affect renter credit
VERAP will pay rent back, prospective rent and 18 months’ rent. In addition, the program will pay the unpaid rent after April 1, 2020. You must apply to the housing program if you wish to use VERAP for your rent payments. To apply, you must fill out a tenant application and a landlord application.

December 31, 2022 is the last day to apply for VERAP assistance. However, if you apply early, you can still get assistance. It will still pay a portion of your rent and can also pay the attorney fees for the landlord. If you’re eligible, you’ll be able to get your utilities paid.
VERAP rent payments will not affect your renter credit but you should not include them as part of your gross income. Additional funding may be available for COVID-19-related sales/revenue loss
You may be eligible to receive additional funds through the state’s COVID-19 rehabilitation program if you have a Vermont rental property. Interested Vermonters should submit pre-applications for the program. The application deadline and the start date for additional funding will be communicated to applicants.
The Department of Public Utilities in the state offers resources to assist customers affected by COVID-19. This includes ERAP, RAFT and more. Those whose utilities are affected by the epidemic may also qualify for the Massachusetts Homeowner Assistance Fund, which provides additional funding to qualified homeowners for utility bills. Homeowners who experience foreclosure within seven days of the storm can also apply for assistance through the Division of Banks.
LRC-140 Landlord Certification required for landlords
